How to Make Motherhood More Enjoyable in 2026 | The Rich Mommie
Motherhood isn’t supposed to be something you simply survive. It’s meant to be experienced.
If you have been wondering how to make motherhood more enjoyable, the answer may not be doing more. It may be learning how to experience the life you already have.

There was a time when I thought being a good mom meant constantly doing more.
More activities, more cleaning, more planning, more worrying, and more sacrificing.
I believed if I just worked harder, I’d finally arrive at this magical place where motherhood felt easier.
Instead, I found myself exhausted.
Even on the happiest days, I was mentally checking off tomorrow’s to-do list before I had fully enjoyed today.
One day, I realized something that changed the way I viewed motherhood. I wasn’t struggling because I didn’t love my children. I was struggling because I had forgotten to enjoy my life alongside them.
As moms, we’re constantly told to cherish every moment because our children grow up so fast. While that’s true, it’s also okay to admit some seasons are overwhelming.
You can love your children deeply and still long for more peace. You can be grateful and still feel tired. You can be an incredible mom while learning how to enjoy motherhood again.
If you’re ready to move beyond simply surviving motherhood, these are the practices that have helped me create more joy, presence, and peace.

1. Let Go of the Pressure to Create Perfect Days
One of the biggest lies moms believe is that every day has to be memorable.
It doesn’t.
Some days are ordinary. Some days are messy. Some days dinner comes from the freezer. Some days everyone is cranky.
That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
Children don’t remember perfection. They remember how home felt. Instead of chasing perfect moments, focus on creating peaceful ones.
2. Be Present for the Ordinary Moments
One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is your attention.

Not expensive vacations. Not elaborate birthday parties.
Your attention.
Research continues to show responsive interactions between parents and children support healthy emotional and social development. Even short periods of focused attention can strengthen those relationships.
I’ve started asking myself one simple question:
“Will I remember this notification next week?”
Usually the answer is no.
But I’ll remember my daughters asking me to watch them dance in the living room.
3. Create Simple Family Traditions

Motherhood becomes more enjoyable when you stop waiting for vacations and holidays to make memories.
Some of my favorite traditions are incredibly simple:
- Saturday waffles
- Movie nights
- Reading together before bed
- Coffee while my girls color beside me
- Evening walks around the neighborhood
These moments cost very little.
But years from now, they’ll likely matter more than many of the expensive things.
4. Stop Comparing Your Motherhood

Comparison quietly steals joy.
Someone will always have:
- A cleaner house.
- More organized routines.
- A prettier kitchen.
- More family help.
- More money.
- More time.
The goal isn’t to become someone else’s version of a great mom. The goal is to become the mom your children need. Comparison shifts your attention away from your own blessings.
Gratitude brings it back.
5. Take Care of Yourself Without Guilt
Somewhere along the way, many moms learned self-care is selfish.
It isn’t.

You matter too.
Taking care of yourself isn’t taking away from your children. It’s helping ensure you have something healthy to give them.
Sometimes self-care looks like:
- Going for a walk
- Reading a book
- Drinking your coffee while it’s still hot
- Going to bed earlier
- Asking for help
- Seeing a counselor
- Praying in silence for ten minutes
Your children benefit from a healthier version of you.
6. Make Your Home Feel Like Peace
Your home doesn’t have to look like Pinterest, but it should feel like a safe place to land.
Here are some simple ideas:
- Light a candle
- Play worship music
- Open the windows
- Cook together
- Declutter one small space

Fresh flowers from the grocery store can completely change the atmosphere of a room.
Peace isn’t about having a perfect home; it’s about creating an environment where everyone can breathe.
7. Laugh More With Your Children

Not everything needs correcting. Sometimes kids are simply being kids.
Here are some easy ways to laugh more:
- Dance in the kitchen
- Tell silly jokes
- Play hide-and-seek
- Build blanket forts
Motherhood becomes lighter when we remember joy is productive too.
8. Lean on Your Faith During Hard Seasons

For me, motherhood became more enjoyable when I stopped trying to carry everything by myself. Don’t get me wrong. I still plan and I still work hard. However, I’ve learned I don’t have to control every outcome.
When I’m overwhelmed, I remind myself of Jesus’ words:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Faith doesn’t remove every hard day; it changes how we walk through them.

9. Celebrate the Small Wins
We spend so much time noticing what didn’t get done.

Instead, notice what did.
Here are some great things to celebrate:
- The laundry is folded
- Your child smiled today
- You made dinner
- You apologized after losing your patience
- You prayed
- You showed up
Those things count.
Progress deserves celebration.

10. Remember This Season Is Temporary
One day, the toys will disappear.
The little shoes won’t be by the front door. The bedtime stories will end. The house will become quieter.
When I remember that, it helps me slow down.
Not because every moment is magical, but because every season eventually becomes a memory.
Final Thoughts on How to Make Motherhood More Enjoyable
If you’re waiting for life to become less busy before you enjoy motherhood, you may be waiting a very long time.
Joy isn’t found when everything becomes easier; it’s found in learning to notice what’s already beautiful.
Some days will still be hard. Some mornings will still feel chaotic. Some nights you’ll collapse into bed wondering if you did enough.
You probably did.
Motherhood isn’t measured by perfection. It’s measured by love.
So today, put down the pressure and pick up the joy. Your children don’t need a perfect mom.
They need you.
The version of you that’s present.
The version of you that’s growing.
The version of you that’s learning to build a rich life right alongside them.
